Meet Big Doris.
She is an extra large variety of Jack-o-lantern pumpkin.
This beautiful specimen weighed in at 27 pounds.
She is a “research pumpkin” grown without using chemical sprays.
She was grown and hand pollinated (selfed) this year at Riviera Farms.
Seeds (~12/pack) from the pictured fruit are now available for purchase at our farm stand and online.
This variety is said to produce large (28-30#), uniform, medium orange fruit with moderate ribbing and strong, thick stems that matures in only 100 days and has intermediate resistance to powdery mildew.
We found that this variety grew and produced very well with compost in our sandy soils. The vast majority of plants produced 1 large uniform fruit per plant. Big Doris nicely fills the niche for extra large Jack-o-lanterns on our farm and we will definitely grow her again.
